This was on the side of one of the buildings by Haymarket.

7 for $1

On my way home from the Aquarium yesterday I walked through Haymarket. I haven't been since last summer, and after how well I did yesterday I'll be sure to get back more often. I got 10 oranges, 5 blood oranges, 2 mangos, and 6 bananas for $4!!!

Click the photo to enlarge and check out all the details.

PS - we're almost caught up (I need to put together one more post), so make sure that you look back at the last week's photos!

Table for Two

This is actually from about a week and a half ago, when we went from the 40s to the 70s for one day, then back to the 40s and rainy for the following weekend. We're loving up the warm weather lately. Even if it isn't technically true, I think every winter feels longer and colder than the past. I know that this winter was relatively mild, but it didn't stop me from complaining about it incessantly, and I was ready for spring about three weeks before it actually came.

From Above

Remember that wedding at the State Room where I got to show you some awesome shots of Faneuil Hall from above? One of those shots was this - same subject as yesterday's photo, but slightly different angle!

And yes, that ghost-like shadow on the right is my dress reflecting in the window...oops!

One Hand Stand

I've shown you some of these guys before, but I absolutely love watching them get their dance on. They're out in Faneuil Hall most of the year - although with all the dancing they're doing, they probably stay warmer than all of us suckers standing around in 30 degree weather watching them! I have one more photo of them from a slightly different perspective that I'll show you tomorrow...

Another Wedding...

Another "aerial" view from the State Room! I liked this photo the best because it gives you a bird's eye view of a few things we've shown you before - the Holocaust Memorial (one and two), the Union Oyster House sign, and the farmers market at Haymarket (which starts at the top center of this photo and takes up that street, then turns lefts along the backside of the block of buildings in the photo).

The Old and the New

I had lunch in town today with Cowbark and a friend aka Wallaby next to this building. Cowbark loves the cheeseburger they have on the menu. I'll definitely go back and have it again!

This is a shot of the "back" of Faneuil Hall (circa 1742) and the two "newer" building behind it, 60 State St (ca. 1977, left) and 28 State St (ca. 1969, right).

Holding onto the Holidays

It's been a crazy busy month and I'm finally back to posting on the blog. This shot was taken at the beginning of January. I'm not sure if this wreath has been taken down yet, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's still up there since no-one seems to be following the superstitious tradition of removing decorations on the twelfth night.

Holocaust Memorial 2

Another shot of the Holocaust Memorial, with the lights from the pub across the street shining through the etched numbers.

A Beacon of Memory and Hope

This is a shot of the Holocaust Memorial, which is just past Faneuil Hall on the Freedom Trail. There's a ton more info on the web page, but here's a quick blurb, and I'll throw up one more picture tomorrow. I loved the rocks on top of the stone here - given that we talked about it back on the Oct 1st Theme Day, I had to take a photo of it to post!

The design utilizes uniquely powerful symbols of the Holocaust. The Memorial features six luminous glass towers, each 54 feet high. The towers are lit internally to gleam at night. They are set on a black granite path, each one over a dark chamber which carries the name of one of the principal Nazi death camps. Smoke rises from charred embers at the bottom of these chambers. Six million numbers are etched in glass in an orderly pattern, suggesting the infamous tattooed numbers and ghostly ledgers of the Nazi bureaucracy. Evocative and rich in metaphor, the six towers recall the six main death camps, the six million Jews who died, or a menorah of memorial candles.

Two Days Left...

The pumpkin distribution line at the Boston Pumpkin Festival. Does anyone know if they broke their own world record from last year of 30,128 lit jack-o-lanterns?

Halloween Countdown: 8 days left...

Today's shot is again from the Pumpkin Festival at City Hall Plaza this past weekend. This little guy puts his pumpkin to good use pretending that it's a bowling ball!

The State Room

I went with a friend to her wedding walk through at The State Room (at 60 State St). I couldn't help but take photos. Watch or the night view in a month and a half, as the wedding is in December. This is the view from the mezzanine in the Great Room, looking down onto Christopher Columbus Park (on the right along the water), the Mercantile Building (the taller of the long buildings beside the park), and into the North End, across the harbor and into East Boston.

Delivery

Sometimes there's no other way to get your building supplies inside!

E's dead - that's what's wrong with 'im!

I was walking through Faneuil Hall after lunch one day and came across this guy! He was eating popcorn and shredding newspaper (apparently that's how parrots build nests, but made out of tree pulp), and had a friend that was sitting on a woman's shoulder. The woman also had an iguana hanging out on top of a cage that you could pet. Not really sure what the whole deal was.

"Buck a box!"

Haymarket is Boston's outdoor food market where you can buy fruit, veggies, cheese, spices, fish, and more. It's definitely a place for sensory overload but once you get past the crowds, and vendors shouting their wares, it can prove to be quite an entertaining and worthwhile visit. Boston accents and characters are plentiful and it's possible to leave with bags full of food for a fraction of what it would cost at a regular supermarket. (Thanks goes to Louise for taking this photograph with my camera!)

Boston Place

Each spring there is a crazy group of people that compete in the Race Up Boston Place - the building above - to raise money for the American Lung Association. It's 41 stories - 82 flights of stairs!!! You can see the results from the race last March here...pretty impressive!!!

Silver Lady

This lovely lady had a lot of people waiting and watching for her to move. One little boy kept yelling "Move already!"
