Here's another one from the Red Sox game last night. I've been playing with "cross processing" photos in Photoshop, and this was one one of my victims. I like the vintagey colors with it.
I love how this guys jersey is so well loved that it's starting to fray. And I may have mentioned it before, but don't we all love Varitek and his cute butt?! At the game Pete turned to me and said "what is it about Varitek, why do all the girls like him?" and I explained to him that the catchers always have the best butt on the team, and besides, he's a good looking guy! For some reason, he still seemed confused. If that's why the girls like him, why do the guys like him? What true Red Sox fan doesn't love a guy that gives A-Rod what he deserves! ;)
I'll ease up on the Red Sox photos for a bit, but as the billboard says "We celebrate New Years' in April"!

Happy April!
I got really lucky and got some Red Sox tickets for the game tonight. It's the third April in a row that Pete and I have gotten our hands on Sox tickets for an April game, so I'm hoping that means that the trend will continue and we'll get to see another 4-5 games this summer! These seats were directly under the press boxes - a pretty nice view!
That pitch you're seeing above, by the way, is the pitch that Papi turned into a grand slam in the 3rd inning. The Sox won 11-3, woohoo!

MFA: III
This is one of the statues in the Buddhist Temple Room I showed you back on Saturday. That scary guy is Bishamonten - the God of War and Warriors. He holds a pagoda in his hand, and here is why:
The small pagoda he often carries symbolizes the divine treasure house. He is both a protector of and dispenser of its treasure -- he shares the pagoda's vast treasures with only "the worthy." In Japan, as a member of the Four Heavenly Kings, he is called Tamonten (Listens to Many Teachings), and in this capacity he protects the places where Buddha preaches and listens always to Buddha's teachings.Learn more here, and don't let this guy's grumpy face scare you - make sure you stop in and say hi to him next time you're at the MFA!

MFA
This is my favorite place in the Museum of Fine Arts. It's the Buddhist Temple Room, and I could sit there for hours. The MFA is currently under construction, so a number of their collections are not being shown in their entirety...but not in the Asian collection! The Buddhas haven't gone anywhere, so head on up there and check them out.

Monthly Theme Day: What Your City Is Known For
We, as a group, were contemplating what Boston is known for. I think that's easier for someone that hasn't grown up here to pinpoint, and there were a few suggestions: Fenway/Red Sox, clam chowder, lobsters. In the end, I made the executive decision to skip the seafood (bleah, gross!) and go with Fenway (woohoo!). The rationale was that you mention Fenway and everyone knows you're talking about Boston, but clam chowder and lobster are more regional things (Maine, Cape Cod).
This picture was taken by our friend Emma, who lives in Tucson, AZ, and was in Boston last summer for an internship. I got tickets in my company's box for the game on July 3rd and took her, much to the chagrin of my boyfriend! This is the view of the press boxes and the Fenway sign behind home plate from our seats. You can see a panoramic view from these same seats (taken at a different game - that I went to with my boyfriend so he wouldn't leave me!) here - click it to enlarge, and all of our other Red Sox/Fenway photos here.

Sunset on the Charles
We had visitors in town this past weekend and took them to the top of the Prudential building for a view of Boston at sunset. Top right is the Hood Blimp, while down below the Red Sox were playing Toronto at Fenway Park.

Teddy Ballgame
Just outside Fenway is the Ted Williams statue. You can also visit the Teddy Ballgame tunnel, but...well, it's not quite as fun. This is a handy spot for gathering if you're meeting up at the park - especially if you're meeting your boyfriend who refused to get a cell phone for nearly 3 years. Not that my boyfriend did that. ;) The statue is around the backside of the park, so if you're there and you haven't seen it yet, head all the way down Landsdowne St and hook a right so you can take your picture with Teddy Ballgame!

A day late, a buck short
Sorry folks - I'm back posting because I spent last night watching the Sox lose to the Oriole's, so I didn't get home until late! That's Jason Varitek at the plate - almost every female Sox fan's favorite. It's cause he's got a nice butt. The catchers always have the best butt on the team, if you ask me - it's all the crouching.

Japanese Garden
Whit and I were at the Museum of Fine Arts today with our friend who was in town. This is a peek through one of the sculptures in the Japanese Garden, which is located on the Fenway side of the museum, and open form 10-4, IF they have enough security guards available. This was the first time that either Whit or I had seen it open.

Jimmy Fun Radio Telethon
Today was the WEEI / NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon. The Jimmy Fund supports cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute here in Boston. One of the folks at work co-ordinated a group of us to take calls this afternoon at Fenway. It was a lot of fun, and we talked to people from all over the country AND the world - Japan, Tennessee, Sarajevo, London, Montana, Michigan, Hawaii. The girl on the right in this photo took one call for a $10,000 donation!!

In the shade with a good book on a beautiful day...looks like a perfect lazy Saturday to me! Through the white archway is the Kelleher Rose Garden.

No really, this is Fenway, too!
A lot of people don't realize that Fenway is more than just a ballpark, so here it is: tree lined streets, beautiful brownstones, and enough college students to make you run screaming....

180 Degree View
Pete and I were spoiled yesterday - we got tickets in the company suite for a great game while we drank free beer & wine, ate a lot (hot dogs, chicken tenders, pizza...Legal Sea Foods clam chowder...veggies, fruits, cookies, popcorn, chips, Haagen Dazs ice cream bars...and that's just what WE ate), and didn't miss a single play thanks to the flat screen TV in the suite's private bathroom! I learned how to use the stitch assist on my camera, and then turned the photos over to Pete (that's him on the right side of the photo) to actually stitch together the panoramic of the view we were enjoying. Here's the result! Click for the larger image and full details.
Before you ask: Yes! The Red Sox won! 11-2 after a 7 run 7th where three consecutive pitchers walked in three consecutive runs. I think the White Sox LOOGY might have lost his job yesterday when he started that off instead of ending the inning...
See our other photos of Fenway right here!

Citgo Sunset
Well unfortunately, helping Sarah move yesterday broke me, so you're all getting a picture from a couple of weeks ago. I had the good fortune to sit in some pretty nice seats at a Red Sox game and snap this picture of the famous Citgo sign during sunset. I wish I'd had a better camera with me to get more pretty pictures that night, but this will have to do. Coming up this week, some pictures of Roslindale Square - a really charming little part of Boston!
