This mural is just outside the Chinatown Gate. It was painted by the Boston Youth Conservation Corps (BYCC), whose work I first saw along the Neponset River Greenway by my house in Dorchester. I could have sworn I had already posted pictures of those murals, but I guess not...I'll be sure to do that soon!

Nice shot ... the area looks very clean. You know, they say one only needs the first and last letter in a word to be correct for your brain to comprehend what you think the word should be (does that make sense, lol?). Well, anyway, I read your post title as Elephant!
Boston needs more murals like this.
Beantown Today: It's funny because the reference is actually to an email sent in college by a very drunk friend, but it's stuck with me all these years and it's what usually comes to my mind first when I think of elephants. You're right about the psychology behind it - it's crazy how our brains work, isn't it??
Lone Beader: Aren't you in Quincy? You should hop over to the Neponset River Greenway and walk the path that runs (at least partially) along the trolley tracks on the Dot/Milton border. That's where I first saw the murals by this group, and they're great! The Chinatown one was the first I've noticed other than the ones on the Greenway, but now I'm watching for them and hopefully I'll find more.
